Important Update from Leslie Slovak, RISD Athletic Director

18 Sep 2020 by Kate Hebert

Good morning. I hope each of you are hanging in there during these challenging times. With challenging times, I have to make difficult decisions. I believe it is always important to communicate these to you and explain the why behind them when possible. I know many of you have already planned on hosting fall baseball or softball games. I understand your desire to want to play fall ball as many of the teams we compete against are also playing. You will be allowed to host fall baseball/softball games at your field. However, there will be NO FANS ALLOWED. We are in the middle of a pandemic with strict capacity rules for seating as well as mask and social distancing requirements. These are our kids and you organize the event, so it is crucial we are always in compliance. It is your responsibility to make sure all players wear masks when not on the field, you must wear one when watching and the adults you have coaching will wear a mask at all times (please limit the number of non RISD fall coaches to no more than 3). Coaches and umpires need to self-screen before coming on campus (this means they do not have any COVID symptoms. If they do, they would stay home). Please enforce social distancing when possible. If you play away, we have the same expectation about masks. Please communicate this expectation. If fans/parents show up to watch at your field, you will need to ask them to leave. If we can’t follow these rules, we will not host. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation. This plan is only for fall ball. You will need to communicate our no fans policy for fall ball with the opposing team.

We will allow fans for your real season within the current UIL/TEA guidelines. We will discuss the logistics as we get closer to the season. We will have an administrator on duty as well as RISD event staff during the season to ensure we are in compliance.

Thank you,

Leslie
